Customised Employment Service

Our new Customised Employment service supports people with disabilities to discover their dream role and realise their abilities.

What is customised employment?

Ability WA’s Customised Employment service assists people with complex barriers to employment to find a long-term, secure job with an inclusive employer.

The service guides people with disabilities to uncover their interests, skills, and career objectives. They then receive tailored assistance in securing employment, along with ongoing support as they transition into their new role and workplace.

How does customised employment work?

Ability WA’s Customised Employment service consists of four key phases:

One: Discovery

Customers will work closely with a dedicated Ability WA Employment Services team member to gather information and identify the customer’s interests, abilities and career goals; this information will help the customer identify potential jobs or careers, or micro-business opportunities.

Two: Planning

With this information, the Employment Services team member will support the customer to develop a meaningful employment plan by identifying a list of potential employers and investigate employment opportunities and career paths through informational interviews.

Three: Negotiation

When a job opportunity becomes available, Ability WA will work with both the customer and the potential employer to negotiate the job, terms of employment and any additional support the customer may require to succeed in the role.

Four: Continued support

With this information, the Employment Services team member will support the customer to develop a meaningful employment plan by identifying a list of potential employers and investigate employment opportunities and career paths through informational interviews.

Who is suitable for customised employment?

We believe everyone has a skill or passion they can contribute to the workforce. Customised Employment is a great alternative to the Disability Employment Services (DES) system, particularly if you have more complex needs or multiple disabilities.

It could be a good fit if you:

  • Want to work and are seeking long-term employment
  • Want personalised support to find and stay in the right role
  • Have employment goals and supports in employment funding in your NDIS plan
