Three New Hubs for Ability WA

In a significant move to enhance disability services, we are pleased to announce the opening of three new hubs across the Perth metropolitan area.

The hubs, based in Murdoch, Wanneroo and Yanchep, underscore our dedication to meeting the growing needs of the disability community in WA. We continue to provide disability support services from our Central Hub in Coolbinia.

By providing accessible, comprehensive services across different regions, we aim to ensure that people living with disabilities are empowered to realise their abilities and thrive within their communities.

Lotterywest Grant: A Boost for Murdoch Square Facility

The hubs were officially launched on June 7, 2024, with the Minister for Disability Services, Hon. Don Punch MLA, visiting our newly opened facility at Murdoch Square to present a Lotterywest grant of $929,564. This generous grant will enable Ability WA to continue delivering integrated disability support services in Perth’s southern corridor.

"As Perth continues to grow so too does the need for disability support services. Ability WA’s new facility at Murdoch Square means people living with disabilities who are located south of the river can now access comprehensive and integrated disability support services in a convenient location.” Jacquie Thomson, CEO

The South Hub at Murdoch Square is designed to provide a wide range of services. It includes an interactive house and home environment where customers can develop skills for independent living. Additionally, it features a Changing Places bathroom, a purpose-built accessible bathroom that is part of an international network, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for all. The Changing Places bathroom at Murdoch Square is supported by funding assistance from the Department of Communities.

SDA apartments which benefit from Ability WA supports, are also located within the square to provide independent living options for our customers.

Expansion into Perth's Northern Corridor

In response to the increasing demand for disability support services, we are set to open two new facilities in 2024. These sites will be located in Wanneroo and Yanchep, serving Perth’s rapidly expanding northern suburbs.

"Ability WA will open new facilities in Wanneroo and Yanchep delivering disability support services to our customers in Perth’s expanding northern corridor. These new facilities will offer comprehensive services across all stages of life from early childhood intervention to employment and independent living support." Jacquie Thomson, CEO

The Power of Partnerships

Building strong partnerships is a key aspect of our approach. The collaboration with Lotterywest, the Department of Communities, the Ability WA Foundation, ECU and other key stakeholders plays a crucial role in the organisation’s ability to support individuals with disabilities.

"Partnerships sit at the heart of Ability WA; we achieve more together. Thanks to the support of Lotterywest, the Department of Communities, the Ability WA Foundation, our Board of Directors, and our wonderful team members, Ability WA can continue to support people to realise their abilities and thrive within their local community." Jacquie Thomson, CEO

Looking Ahead

Ability WA's growth, marked by the new Murdoch Square facility and the forthcoming sites in Wanneroo and Yanchep, highlights a robust response to the increasing demand for disability support services in Perth. Through strategic partnerships and community-focused initiatives, we are continuing to make significant strides in empowering West Australians to realise their abilities.
