Chloe is 25 and lives with friends in supported disability accommodation. She is the first person to tell you she's having a great time. “This house is awesome," she says. "You get to basically have your own freedom.”
Finding the right opportunities and supports has been part of her story, and moving into her own place changed what she gets to do with her days.
Independence starts at home
For Chloe, independent living is about having choices and the support to live the way she wants to. Cooking her own meals. Sorting her own laundry. Deciding what her week looks like.
The day-to-day things many people take for granted are exactly the things Chloe didn't always get to do. Now she does and she's loving it. “You get to do several tasks that you didn’t used to do before. You get to explore them now. You get to have fun with them.”
A home with the right people in it
Chloe got to choose where to live and who to share her home with. That’s what makes supported accommodation feel like home – getting to know each other, spending time together and cheering each other on.
Ten years of getting it right
Chloe's has room to live her own life with the support she needs around her. After ten years with Ability WA, Chloe knows what good support looks like, "It's only thanks to these guys that I'm here and I'm doing what I get to do."
Find a home where you can live your way
Chloe's story is one version of what's possible. Living arrangements look different for everyone.
Some people are looking for drop-in support in their own place. Others are suited to a supported accommodation home with the right combination of housemates and onsite care.
For those with very high support needs, we have new Specialist Disability Accommodation homes which were designed to be more accessible so you can live more independently while receiving the supports you need.
We can help you to find a place, you can feel safe, supported and free to live the way you want.
