In February, we welcomed the honorable Jenny McAllister, partners, customers and government representatives to our Malaga Hub to launch the Access Tech pilot.
Through a national collaboration with Ability First Australia, and delivered locally by Ability WA, this pilot is improving access to assistive technology for people with disability at the moments that matter most - ensuring quality equipment is available when and where it’s needed.
The opening marks a major milestone in expanding digital inclusion and personalised technology support across Western Australia.
Joey, a customer who uses an AAC device to communicate and a powered wheelchair to mobilise, spoke about the need for planned redundancy in AT and the ‘real life’ impacts of AT failure.
Access Tech has already made a real difference for people when it matters most:
- A child receiving palliative care, who had no permanent mobility aid, was supported with a tilt-in-space manual wheelchair - allowing their family to continue sharing everyday moments together in the community.
- A customer whose power wheelchair was damaged during a flight received an interim solution promptly, ensuring he could continue moving freely at home and in his community while his chair was being repaired.
- A person living with severe chronic pain - unable to travel more than a few minutes by car - was provided with a complex interim powerchair, maintaining their comfort and independence while their primary device was sent interstate for repairs.
Access Tech provides timely, quality and affordable assistive technology, so that people with disability can continue living their lives on their own terms.
