The Early Mealtime Service has been developed to support families and caregivers of children up to five years old who are experiencing challenges during mealtimes.
Our service is delivered by a multidisciplinary team of speech pathologists, occupational therapists, dieticians and social workers to provide your family with support and practical strategies you can use to improve your confidence around mealtimes and create positive experiences for your whole family.
Mealtime challenges may include:
- Signs of distress such as coughing or difficulty swallowing
- Extreme sensitivities to tastes, smells or textures of food
- Significant changes in food intake
Using a family-centred approach, we’ll support you in identifying your child’s individual goals and unique mealtime needs.
How it works:
- Contact us to receive a referral form to be completed by the primary caregiver or health professional.
- Once returned, successful referrals will be contacted to complete an at home initial assessment.
- Our therapy team will create an individualised plan based on the goals and needs of your child and your family.
- The following sessions for your treatment plan are held at our Central or North Hub.

This is a free service for eligible families thanks to the support of Telethon.
