Going for a ride is now a truly inclusive affair for the Gibbons family with the delivery of a tandem bike for 12-year-old Bridget thanks to a donation from Toybox International.
Bridget has cerebral palsy on her left side and does not have the strength to keep up with the rest of the family when they are riding. Now she can ride the tandem bike with Mum or Dad and is loving being part of this activity.
“We had a go on a tandem bike when we went to Rottnest and it seemed to work well for Bridget, said Mum Mary Gibbons. “To be able to own one that can be used whenever we want is amazing. It has been incredible for Bridget; she has never previously experienced the speed of a normal bike ride.
“Over time Bridget will be able to share the bike with friends which will be really liberating for her. We are also excited that she will be able to participate in the school Bike-Ed program next term. The end of the course is the ride from Hillarys to Mullaloo and Bridget was going to miss out but now she will be able to join her classmates.”
