AssisTkids is now open!

Ability WA launches AssisTkids Specialised Equipment Library for children with disabilities

Ability WA is proud to announce the opening of the AssisTkids Specialised Equipment Library.

Childhood is about exploring the world around you and imagining your possibilities. Access to specialised equipment supports children with disabilities to start their journey of exploration and reaching their goals.

However, delays in production or lack of funding can prevent children with disabilities from accessing the equipment they need to reach their critical milestones.

As the first and only equipment hire library in Western Australia, AssisTkids provides a much-needed service to children living with disability to trial and hire the equipment they need, when they need it.

Ability WA Chief Executive Officer, Jacquie Thomson, says: “By providing access to specialised equipment, we will be able to see firsthand the incredible positive impact this will have on Ability WA’s young customers and their families.”

The first AssisTkids customers start their specialised equipment journeys

One Ability WA customer who will benefit from AssisTkids is Emmy. At not yet two, Emmy faces challenges associated with Global Developmental Delay, but has a huge potential for growth and achievement with the right support.

Thanks to AssisTkids, Emmy has hired the Wizzy Bug mobility device. The Wizzy Bug not only expands Emmy's mobility, but also opens a world of possibilities for exploration and independence.

Reaching new milestones with specialist equipment

Participating Ability WA customers like Emmy, will work with therapists to be fitted with specialised equipment based on their needs. Each piece of equipment is expertly adjusted to suit the customer.

Once the customer’s goals are met, they are reassessed and assigned a new piece of equipment. The equipment they return to AssisTkids is then hired out to another customer so it can benefit them.

Ability WA customers can access new equipment as needed or be fitted with a different piece of specialised equipment to better suit evolving personal or developmental goals.

AssisTkids is supported by Telethon.
