Paris's journey to employment!

Banking on disability employment support

For most people, it’s not every day that they would be the smiling face that welcomes people to Australia’s largest hunger relief charity. But, for Ability WA customer Paris, it’s a regular workday in her role as receptionist at Foodbank Western Australia.

Paris, who lives with Cerebral Palsy and is a wheelchair user, joined Ability WA’s disability employment services (DES) program where she decided to pursue a career in administration. Having recently been approached by Foodbank Western Australia to assist with recruiting for a reception role, Ability WA’s Employment Services team identified Paris as a suitable candidate for the role and provided support to Paris throughout the recruitment process.

With her bubbly, welcoming nature and eagerness to learn making her a natural fit for the role, Paris got the job!

A job provides more than just a paycheque, with the positive impacts of employment including building relationships and becoming part of a community.

Paris says it best: “Working at Foodbank, I have enjoyed meeting a variety of people from all walks of life - including some very special dogs!”

Turns out, not even a three-time All Australian football legend can beat a visit from some furry friends!
