Living life to the fullest: Melanie’s story of support at home

Living life to the fullest: Melanie’s story of support at home.

With a huge smile and an infectious laugh, Melanie is exactly the kind of person who reminds you what’s possible with the right support.

I’m happy-go-lucky. I’m a people person,” she says. “I love to live life to the fullest and take every opportunity that’s possible.”

Melanie, lives in a Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) home with other women and receives tailored at-home support from Ability WA. With a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy, having the right level of care isn’t just helpful, it’s essential to her independence, safety, and ability to thrive.

And recently, that support has increased.

“I get more supported care now, which is awesome,” Melanie shares. “It’s been a big bonus.”

Building independence through the right support

That boost has made a real difference. With a strong support team around her, Melanie is able to work, socialise, and stay active in her community, things she’s passionate about and determined to keep doing.

“Without them, I wouldn’t be able to live in my home or go out and have a life,” she says. “Now I know if there’s an emergency, I can get help straight away.”

A home that feels like family

But it’s not just about practical support it’s about connection too.

We’re all one big happy family here. Everyone gets on so well. We enjoy each other’s company all the time.”
