AbilityTECH and Therapy Services combine innovation, expert knowledge and specialist skills to improve the lives of people with disability through assistive technology.
Working closely with people living with disabilities and other experts, AbilityTECH uses innovative thinking and technical expertise to create custom assistive solutions that support independence and comfort. AbilityTECH’s team also modify off-the-shelf products to meet individual needs as well as provide consultative support to therapists seeking advice.

AbilityTECH collaborates with specialist technicians and engineers to provide fabricated custom products. This includes a comprehensive assessment of individual needs to assist in identifying the most suitable equipment solution.
Technology for communication
This may include alternative access methods such as switch access, eye gaze and voice access methods or support to access other communication devices such as phones and tablets. This could also include recommendations, repairs or servicing for mounting solutions to safely and reliably access devices.Environmental controls
AbilityTECH can provide options to automate and control home lighting, TV, air conditioning or doorway access.Computer controls
AbilityTECH can support to access mouse and/or keyboard alternatives and specialised software programs.Recreational equipment
With a mechatronics engineer with a passion for gaming and accessible gaming, AbilityTECH can support access to modified gaming consoles like Xbox or PlayStation as well as switch adapted toys, alternate access to music and books. AbilityTECH can also support to access customised equipment for participation in activities like fishing, painting and cooking. -
Technology can assist in communicating through alternative methods such as pointing to or looking at pictures, using gestures and/or formal sign systems and using electronic voice output devices. Device features to support communication may include computer-generated speech, touchscreen display and multiple access options including direct touch, joystick, single/dual switches, eye gaze and head-pointing.
AbilityTECH can assess equipment needs and make recommendations that may include:
- trialing recommended equipment
- training for individuals, families and other support people
- consulting with therapists, schools, employers and other involved agencies
- connecting to local and national community services

Building a new home or modifying an existing home with accessibility needs?
AbilityTECH’s NDIS accredited team works with individuals to develop customised solutions to improve accessibility and safety in the home.
We can provide assistance with:
- building a new home
- working with builders to modify a home
- making doorways wider or re-swinging doors
- providing ramps to entrances
- providing hand held showers and rail grabs
Funding assistance may be available through the Community Aids and Equipment Program (CAEP) for modifications that are regarded as essential for safety and independence in the home. NDIS participants may be able to request home modifications on NDIS plans.

The quality and quantity of sleep has a direct impact on other aspects of life.
By bringing together occupational therapists, physiotherapists and a highly skilled technical team to provide expertise to manage sleep quality, AbilityTECH supports sleep difficulties through expert clinical support and specialised equipment.
Sleep problems
The AbilityTECH team examine factors related to the sleep setting including the bed and bedding, daily habits and activities, settling routines and behaviours, communication difficulties and health and medication.Postural care
AbilityTECH considers beds, mattresses and bedding to ensure postural care and safety, as well as factors such as pain, comfort, pressure care and body temperature.AbilityTECH also supplies bed related materials and fabricates custom 24-hour positioning cushions.

The AbilityTECH team support individuals to maintain wheeled mobility, commode or assistive technology. Working with individuals, their families and therapy teams, AbilityTECH can identify solutions to support greater independence or modify or adapt existing equipment.
